Henderson, NV – Southern Nevada continued their winning weekend with a chance to sweep the Coyotes of Okanagan College from Kelowna, BC.
Alex Tisminezky started on the hill for CSN but did not get off on the right foot. He drilled the first batter who had already been hit at least four times prior this weekend.
Tisnminesky would walk the next batter and then a bad pick-off attempt would get away from first baseman
Justin Lutes and allow the man from second to score.
A sacrifice-fly would plate the second run and CSN found themselves in an early hole before even giving up their first hit.
Tisminezky would find his rhythm and shut down Okanagan until he was pulled before the fifth inning.
CSN would not get the bats going until they lit up the score board in the third.
Christian Maggi would get on via the fielder's choice, followed by
Justin Lutes earning his 17
th walk of the season, and then an RBI single from
Jason Wallace.
With Lutes on second and Wallace at first,
Jay Martz would send a towering shot off the scoreboard to take the lead 4-2.
Jarret Perns would follow that up with a single only to be brought home off an RBI double from
Kaid Urban.
Jordan Macias then rewarded Urban with an RBI single to bring him home and extend the Coyotes lead 6-2.
CSN would have another opportunity to score with the bases loaded in the fourth but could not capitalize and left three stranded.
Bryce Bartlett would take over for Tisminezky to start the fifth but was pulled after hitting two batters and walking three while allowing three runs.
Timmy Burtzloff was brought out of the pen and closed out the fifth.
In the bottom of the fifth, CSN answered back as Lutes doubled down the line, plating Johnson and Maggi in the process. The first baseman would steal third and was brought home by an RBI single from Perns.
In the sixth, Macias would triple with one out and was brought home from a sacrifice-fly from Maggi.
Johnson was hit at the plate, stole second and then was walked in as the CSN lead was 11-5.
Okanagan would not go away as they plated two more runs in the top half of the seventh.
CSN answered back with two of their own in the bottom half.
With the game nearly put away, CSN added two more in the bottom of the eighth.
Trevor Mullaney would be brought in to close out the game and secure the weekend sweep.
CSN will host the Coyote Slugout next week and will face the Prairie Baseball Academy and the University of Alberta.
