Dan Skelly took the hill as the Coyotes tried shake off a devastating loss the night prior against the Apaches of Cochise College.
He would face their red-hot bats and give up 2 early runs in the 2
nd followed by 2 more in the 3
rd and one more in the 4
th.
???????Skelly finally was able to dial it in the end the 5
th inning with 3 straight strike-outs.
Trevor Mullaney took over in the 6
th but gave up a lead-off walk followed by an RBI single and then an RBI triple. He was pulled shortly after as
Tyce O'Neill was brought in to collect the final two outs.
O'Neill struck-out the first batter he faced but then allowed an RBI double. He was then able to strike-out the next batter after the Apache lead was extended 8-0.
The Coyote bats remained dormant for most of the part of the game until they finally came to life in the bottom of the 6
th. With only 5 outs remaining in the 7-inning contest, a single from
Peyton Koopman, a walk from
Cody Milner, a single from
Jordan Macias loaded the bases for
Christian Maggi.
Maggi would get drilled in the shoulder at the plate to record the first Coyote run. Capitalizing on the momentum,
Blake Wiggins who send a shot over the center-fielders head to empty the bags and close the gap to just 4.
Justin Lutes would be called upon to pinch-hit next and hit an RBI single to reward Wiggins who came home from 3
rd. The hits and the inning would end with a 4-6-3 double play and the Coyotes would trail 8-5 heading into the 7
th.
O'Neill would allow a sacrifice-fly to tack on one more run for the Apaches.
Then in the bottom of the 7
th, with only 3 outs left to give, the Coyotes would lead off with a single, then fly out to right, hit another single, but finish with two fly-outs as the game ended in Cochise's favor 9-5.
