The Coyotes took a nine-game winning streak on the road to Price, Utah as they prepared for a conference clash with the USU-Eastern Eagles. CSN entered the weekend four games ahead of second place Salt Lake City with a showdown for SWAC supremacy just one week away.Â
As usual, sophomore
Todd Danzeisen (6-0) got the nod in the series opener looking to extend the Coyotes winning streak to ten games and remain undefeated.
Michael Camburn got the Coyotes on the board first with an RBI groundout that plated
Jay Martz.
Dillon Johnson followed in the third inning with a two-RBI single that scored
Justin Lutes and
Jason Wallace.
Jay Martz doubled home DJ one batter later to expand CSN's lead to 4-0.
The Eagles plated a run in the 3
rd and 6
th innings to cut the deficit to 4-2, but that was as close as they would get.
Dillon Johnson tallied his third RBI of the game in the seventh inning and reliever
Alex Tisminezky came in to pitch 2.1 innings of relief holding the game for
Blake Inouye who pitched 1 inning to secure Danzeisen's 7
th victory of the season and earn Inouye the save.
CSN defeated USU-E 5-2 to extend its winning streak to ten games.
Herbie Good took the ball in game two, focused on win number two of the season and extend the Coyotes winning streak to a season high eleven games.
Good scattered five hits and three runs over his four innings of work, but was aided by a surging Coyote offense that plated runs and hits to help nail down Herbie's second win of 2017.
Freshman
Jordan Macias took his RBI total up to 30 after plating a team-high four runs, while
Justin Lutes and
Jason Wallace produced 2 RBI' s apiece.
Dillon Johnson,
Peyton Koopman and
Jarrett Perns each contributed 1 RBI as six of the nine CSN starters produced at least 1 hit.
CSN's offensive eruption in game two led to a decisive 12-4 victory over USU-E, extending the team's winning streak to a season best 11 games. Â Â
 Â
CSN sent another unbeaten lefty to the mound in game three, hoping to secure its third consecutive series win and run its season high winning streak to a dozen.
Ben Cutting (3-0) was on the bump fresh off a six-inning gem vs. CNCC in which the sophomore surrendered just two runs and 4 hits.
Cutting shined bright in Price, scattering four hits over 4.2 scoreless innings of work.
Jarrett Perns plated a pair of runs with RBI singles in the third and seventh innings to lead CSN's offensive attack in game three.
Justin Lutes and
Nicco Festa produced RBI's in the sixth and seventh innings to help pad the Coyotes lead.
Blake Inouye pitched 2.1 innings of scoreless baseball, striking out four Eagles on the way to his second save of the weekend.
Cutting improved to 4-0 as CSN blanked USU-E 5-0 for its 12
th straight win.
The Coyotes continued its march towards a third consecutive SWAC regular season crown with freshman
Isaiah Blaylock on the mound in the series finale.
A win would make CSN a perfect 8-0 versus USU-E, but the Eagles had other plans.
For the second consecutive start Blaylock struggled to consistently locate his pitches for strikes early and that led to USU-E plating four runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Christian Maggi was the lone bright spot for the Coyote offense going 3 for 3 with a pair of RBI's in the second and sixth innings. Unfortunately for CSN, those would be the only runs the offense would produce all afternoon.
The Eagles plated three more insurance runs down the stretch to defeat the Coyotes 7-2 and avoid the series and season sweep.
The loss dropped CSN to 20-4 in the SWAC and 33-11 overall.
Fans your Coyotes (20-4 SWAC) will host the SLCC Bruins (17-7 SWAC) in a pivotal showdown for conference supremacy this Friday and Saturday at "The Den".
