HENDERSON, Nev. (April 20, 2019) – The College of Southern Nevada softball team continues to improve, pushing forward through a weekend sweep.
The Lady Coyotes earned a win in their second consecutive Scenic West Athletic Conference series, picking up a doubleheader sweep of the Colorado Northwestern Community College on the road on Saturday. CSN won the first game, 14-8, and also claimed a 16-5 win in the second game. Southern Nevada's overall record is now 15-24 with a record of 13-15 in the Scenic West after the series sweep.
Southern Nevada will host USU Eastern at Lady Coyote Softball Field next weekend for their final home series of the season, including the program's annual "Sophomore Day".
Southern Nevada 14, Colorado Northwestern 8: The Lady Coyotes continued their high-scoring ways, powering to the game three victory.
Once again, Southern Nevada had to come back from an early deficit as it was CNCC who took an early 3-0 lead. The Coyotes picked up two runs in the third inning, starting a rally that ended in five-consecutive innings of scoring.
Tied at 8-8 entering the top of the seventh inning, CSN once again stole the hopes of victory away from the Spartans, scoring six runs to claim the victory. Offense ruled the game as CSN posted 10 hits in the win.
Three different CSN players posted multi-hit games, including
Alyssa Trujillo going 2-of-3 with a pair of RBI's and
Alexis Vigil holding the team lead in RBI's with three.
Breanna Alvarez earned the pitching win, throwing five innings while allowing just one earned run.
Southern Nevada 16, Colorado Northwestern 5: In contrast to other games in the series, Southern Nevada jumped out to an early lead and never looked back in the series finale.
The Lady Coyotes held an early 6-0 lead, thanks to an offensive performance that ended in 13 team hits. The run-rule victory featured three multi-run innings for CSN and offensive performances that included
Patricia Galtieri's 3-of-4 performance at the plate.
Bailey Pepper also went 2-of-4 in the game, leading with 4 RBI's and a home run.
Alvarez picked up the pitching win, throwing four innings while allowing three earned runs.
