LAMAR, CO (May 18, 2019) – The No. 5 College of Southern Nevada baseball team entered Saturday's NJCAA Western District championship game knowing the stakes of their plight.
Unfortunately, so did Central Arizona College who entered the matchup looking to repeat Friday's big win over the Coyotes. Central Arizona prevailed in its quest, earning a 16-7 win to advance to the NJCAA College World Series. The Coyotes will end the season with a 46-12 overall record.
Central Arizona scored seven runs in the first frame to build a lead they would never relinquish, stretching the lead to 16-2 after the fourth inning. A.J. Amelburu hit a solo home run in the second inning, also hitting an RBI double in the fourth and sixth innings. Southern Nevada made a late comeback but couldn't score enough to present a serious threat.
Amelburu led Southern Nevada by going 3-of-4 in the game, also contributing a trio of RBI's.
Steven Rivas scored three runs in the game.
With the loss, Southern Nevada ended the season as the Scenic West Athletic Conference regular-season champion, the Region 18 champion, and #5 in the country.
