HENDERSON, Nev. (May 4, 2019) – How sweep it was for the No. 8 College of Southern Nevada baseball team on Saturday.
Needing to pick up two victories in order to win the Scenic West regular-season title, the Coyotes found a way to come past the No. 19 Salt Lake Community College program to earn a narrow 3-1 victory in game one and an impressive 9-1 win in game two. The wins help Southern Nevada earn the right to host the Region 18 championships next weekend at Morse Stadium.

Southern Nevada 3, Salt Lake 1: A back-and-forth game ended in the Coyotes finding a way to power to a late victory.
After four scoreless innings,
Jack Pineda got the Coyotes on the board in the fifth inning on a sacrifice-fly to center field to give Southern Nevada a 1-0 lead. Salt Lake picked up a tying run in the sixth inning before CSN retook the lead with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the inning. First,
Steven Rivas scored on wild pitch for CSN to take the lead, followed up by
Matt Wong scoring on a fielder's choice.
Josh Brown earned the win for Southern Nevada, throwing 1.1 innings with a strikeout.
Southern Nevada 9, Salt Lake 1: CSN clinched the Scenic West title with a roar, picking up a run-rule win in the series finale.
The Coyotes scored a run in the first inning on an
AJ Amelburu RBI walk, followed up by two runs in the second inning to take a 3-0 lead.
Cole Schaefer had an RBI bunt-single in the third inning to help Southern Nevada to a 4-0 lead.
Salt Lake scored a run in the fifth inning before
Matt Wong responded with a two-run home run in the sixth inning and
AJ Amelburu hit an RBI double to boost the CSN lead to 7-1. Two Southern Nevada runs also scored in the seventh inning on unearned runs.
Wong and Schaefer both went 2-of-3 at the plate, with Wong also finishing with three RBI's. Cuevas pitched a complete-game victory, allowing five hits and striking out nine batters in seven innings.
