HENDERSON, Nev. (May 4, 2019) – In spite of the adversity they faced throughout the season, the College of Southern Nevada softball team fought valiantly in all moments.
The Lady Coyotes hung tough in both games of a doubleheader against Salt Lake Community College Saturday, losing 6-5 in game one and 10-2 in game two. CSN will end its season at 16-31 overall and 14-22 in the Scenic West Athletic Conference.
The team will host a postseason celebration in the coming days.
Salt Lake 6, Southern Nevada 5: A walk-off hit broke the hearts of the Coyotes in the seventh inning.
Southern Nevada held an early 2-0 lead after
Bailey Pepper had an RBI in the first to score a run, followed up by
Haley Kassel walking in a run after she was hit by a pitch.
Alyssa Trujillo hit an RBI single in the sixth inning to extend CSN's lead to 3-1, followed up by a
Breanna Alvarez two-run home run to boost the lead to 5-1.
Unfortunately, Salt Lake came back to score five runs over the last two innings, earning the walk-off victory.
Karen Hernandez pitched the entire game for Southern Nevada, striking out seven batters. Alvarez went 2-of-3 with a pair of RBI's and
Alexis Vigil went 2-of-2.
Salt Lake 10, Southern Nevada 2: The Coyotes weren't able to muster the offense to match SLCC, leaving Southern Nevada falling short.
SLCC took an early 2-0 lead which CSN answered in the third inning.
Avery Rayos reached on an error in the inning, ultimately helping two runs score in the inning. However, Salt Lake went on a prolonged scoring rally from there to pick up the run-rule victory.
