HENDERSON, Nev. (March 7, 2020) – The College of Southern Nevada softball team picked up its first conference win of the season in a doubleheader Saturday.
The Lady Coyotes earned an 11-8 win over Snow College in a Scenic West Athletic Conference doubleheader, splitting the day's action with a close 9-7 loss later in the day. The split day sends CSN's overall record to 8-13 and 1-7 in SWAC play.
Southern Nevada will travel to play Colorado Northwestern Community College next weekend.
Southern Nevada 11, Snow 8: A display of extra-base hits lifted Southern Nevada to the game one victory.
CSN scored five runs in the fourth inning, taking a 5-0 lead thanks to a three-run home run by
McKenzie Hamilton and a two-run home run by
Alyssa Trujillo. Snow responded with three runs in the fifth inning but
Liliana Gutierrez hit a two-run home run in the fifth inning to extend the lead to 7-3.
With the CSN lead cut to 8-7 in the sixth inning,
Bailey Pepper launched a three-run home run to reestablish a strong Lady Coyotes advantage. CSN had four players with multi-hit games, with Hamilton posting a team-high four RBI's.
Karen Hernandez earned the pitching win, throwing six innings and striking out four Snow hitters.
Snow 9, Southern Nevada 7: A back-and-forth contest ended with a close Snow win.
Bailey Pepper picked up where she left off in the second inning, hitting a two-run home run to tie the game at 2-2. Snow responded to take a 7-2 lead before CSN scored two runs on a
Mayu Nishijima two-run single. Nishijima also hit a two-run single in the sixth inning but it proved to be too little, too late.
Nishijima led Southern Nevada individually, going 2-of-4 with 4 RBI's at the plate.
