HENDERSON, Nev. (May 14, 2021) – The College of Southern Nevada baseball team made the most of its opportunities Friday, winning a pair of elimination games to advance to Saturday's Region 18 finals.
CSN posted a 13-4 win over USU Eastern to start the day, earning the win to advance to a one-loss bracket final against Southern Idaho. The Coyotes also downed CSI by a final score of 15-5, exacting revenge an evening after the Golden Eagles downed CSN in the tourney's opening games.
Southern Nevada will advance to play Salt Lake in Saturday's Region 18 finals, with the first game starting at 12:00 p.m. at Morse Stadium. CSN will have to win a pair of games to claim the Region 18 crown.
Southern Nevada 13, USU Eastern 4: CSN scored early and often, using big innings to advance after the day's first game.
Joseph Walls hit a solo home run in the first inning to set the tone, with
Damiano Palmegiani later hitting a three-run home run in the second inning to give CSN a 7-2 lead.
Trey Frahm added power with a two-run shot in the fourth inning, with Palmegiani also adding a two-run home run in the fifth inning.
Palmegiani was 2-of-5 with five RBI's to lead CSN.
Joey Magrisi earned a no-decision in the start, with
Demetrius Vigil earning the win in relief.
Southern Nevada 15, Southern Idaho 5: Consistent scoring powered the Coyotes into Saturday's Region 18 finals.
CSN got on the board in the first inning thanks to a Palmegiani groundout, with the Coyotes later posting four runs in the fifth inning on a series of CSI errors.
Colby Smith added an RBI double in the sixth inning, with Palmegiani also adding an RBI single in the frame.
Joseph Walls finished 2-of-3 at the plate with four RBI's to lead CSN.
Josh Swales earned the pitching victory, posting eight strikeouts in the win.
