HENDERSON, Nev. (May 7, 2021) – The College of Southern Nevada softball team was swept by the Scenic West Athletic Conference's top team in a doubleheader Saturday.
CSN fell in a pair of games with Salt Lake, losing by scores of 4-2 and 13-8 to go 0-4 in the series. The Lady Coyotes will finish the regular season with a mark of 30-29 overall and 20-20 in Scenic West play.
Southern Nevada will now await next week's Region 18 championship tournament, which will be hosted at Lady Coyote Softball Field.
Salt Lake 4, Southern Nevada 2: Both reserved their scoring for two innings, with the Bruins posting the bigger scoring effort.
SLCC posted four runs in the fourth inning, taking a lead it would never relinquish. Southern Nevada fought back to post a pair of runs in the sixth inning, but the Coyotes were unable to comeback in the game.
Kayley Cole went 2-of-4 at the plate.
Mayu Nishijima and
Caitlin Covington both had RBI's in the loss.
Salt Lake 13, Southern Nevada 8: A back-and-forth game saw CSN fall a bit shy in the final innings.
SLCC jumped out to a 3-2 lead in the first inning, before Southern Nevada posted a 5-4 lead in the second inning. Salt Lake continuing posting runs, scoring four runs in the fifth inning to take the lead for good.
Kayley Cole went 3-of-3 in the game to lead the Bruins, while
Mayu Nishijima and
Caitlin Covington both went 2-of-4 in the frame. Covington had a team-high three RBI's.
