HENDERSON, Nev. (January 30, 2022) – The College of Southern Nevada Softball team was swept in a pair of games on Saturday.
CSN dropped a doubleheader with Trinidad State and South Mountain in 'CSN Kickoff Classic, Presented by Silver State Schools Credit Union', falling to 1-4 overall. Southern Nevada lost a 7-5 game with Trinidad State and a 14-12 decision to South Mountain.
The Lady Coyotes will travel south to play a tournament at Arizona Western next weekend.
Trinidad State 7, Southern Nevada 5: A pair of late runs helped Trinidad State down the Lady Coyotes.
Tied at 5-5 after seven innings, Trinidad State plated a pair of runs in the eighth inning to end the game. Trinidad had earlier jumped out to a 5-1 lead, prior to
Jocelyn Shupp hitting a two-run home run in the fifth inning to get CSN back in the game.
South Mountain 14, Southern Nevada 12: In a game high on scoring, a nine-run inning from South Mountain undid CSN's chances to close its home tournament with a win.
Tied at 5-5 entering the top of the sixth inning, South Mountain scoring nine runs in the inning to take a lead it would never relinquish. The irony was CSN responded by scoring six runs in the bottom half of the inning.
Liliana Gutierrez hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning, followed up by Kenley Cole hitting a solo home run in the seventh inning.
Cole went 4-of-5 at the plate in the game.
