HENDERSON, Nev. (February 26, 2022) – The No. 14 College of Southern Nevada Baseball team fell in a non-conference doubleheader sweep Friday.
CSN lost by decisions of 3-2 and 5-3 to Cochise at Morse Stadium on Friday, losing late in both games. The Coyotes then followed up with a 12-2 loss on Saturday in the series finale. Southern Nevada is now 8-7 overall.
Southern Nevada will open Scenic West Athletic Conference play next weekend at Salt Lake Community College.
Cochise 3, Southern Nevada 2: Back-and-forth action ended in a narrow Cochise win.
Cochise jumped out to a 3-0 lead midway through the fifth inning, prior to the Coyotes scoring a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. The rally started with an
Austin Cates RBI triple, then followed up with a Zachary Culver RBI single.
Ikaika Ganancial went 2-of-2 at the plate in the loss.
Cochise 5, Southern Nevada 3: Cochise jumped on Southern Nevada early in the second game of Friday's doubleheader, posting a lead it never retreated from.
Cochise posted three runs in the top of the first inning, with CSN responding with a single run in the bottom of the frame thanks to a
Gavin Amelburu RBI sacrifice fly. The Coyotes later scored a pair of runs in the sixth inning on a throwing error.
Cochise 12, Southern Nevada 2: A barrage of Cochise scoring downed Cochise.
Bradley Stone helped CSN get on the board in the third inning with an RBI single, cutting the deficit to 6-1.
Gavin Malcolm then had an RBI groundout in the seventh inning.
