HENDERSON, Nev. (March 26, 2022) – The College of Southern Nevada Softball program picked up a split in a Scenic West Athletic Conference doubleheader Saturday.
CSN finished at 1-3 in a weekend series against Salt Lake Community College, splitting a Saturday doubleheader with an 8-4 loss and an 11-3 win. The split sets Southern Nevada at 12-14 overall and 9-7 in league play.
The Lady Coyotes will travel to play at USU Eastern next weekend.
Salt Lake 8, Southern Nevada 4: SLCC scored early and often in a CSN loss during the day's opening game.
It was CSN who opened the scoring in the first inning, with Kenley Cole hitting a solo home run in the first inning. SLCC then scored seven unanswered runs, taking a lead it would never relinquish. The Lady Coyotes started a comeback attempt in the fifth inning, with
Mayu Nishijima and
Caitlin Covington both hitting RBI triples, but it was too-little, too-late.
Covington went 2-of-3 at the plate.
Laynee Anzalone took the pitching loss.
Southern Nevada 11, Salt Lake 3: In a tale of two games, CSN seized early momentum and never looked back.
Mayu Nishijima hit an RBI single in the first inning, then CSN scored three runs in the second inning to take a 4-0 run. Kenley Cole hit a two-run triple in the fourth inning, punctuating a game that ended in a run-rule win.
Leina'ala Sakay went 3-of-3 to lead CSN.
Codilyn Olds earned the pitching victory.
