HENDERSON, Nev. (April 15, 2022) – The College of Southern Nevada Softball team had a split against the Scenic West Athletic Conference leader in a home doubleheader Friday.
CSN split a pair of decisions to the College of Southern Idaho at Lady Coyote Softball Field, falling 7-4 in the opening game before earning a 3-2 win in the day's second game. The split levels the Lady Coyotes at 17-19 overall and 14-12 in Scenic West games.
Southern Nevada and Southern Idaho will play a pair of games on Saturday, with the day's first game starting at 12:00 p.m.
Southern Idaho 7, Southern Nevada 4: Southern Idaho jumped out to a 5-0 lead, providing an advantage the Lady Coyotes could never recover from.
CSI took a 5-0 lead midway through the third inning, prior to
Liliana Gutierrez hitting a two-run home run in the bottom of the third inning to cut the deficit to 5-2. Both Gutierrez and
Caitlin Covington would add RBI singles in the seventh inning, but it proved to be too little, too late for the Lady Coyotes.
Gutierrez was 2-of-4 with a trio of RBI's. Covington went 2-of-3 at the plate.
Southern Nevada 3, Southern Idaho 2: After providing highlights in the first game,
Liliana Gutierrez provided the play of the day for the Lady Coyotes in a game-two win.
Trailing 2-0 midway through the third inning, Gutierrez hit a two-run home run to give the Lady Coyotes a lead for the only time on the day.
Taylor Hendricks also hit an RBI double in the inning.
Gutierrez was 1-of-3 with a pair of RBI's.
Serenity Jackson earned the pitching win, throwing six innings and allowing just a pair of runs with a strikeout.
