HENDERSON, Nev. (May 11, 2022) – A fast start led to a cool evening for the College of Southern Nevada Softball team.
The Lady Coyotes, playing as the No. 4 seed in the opening day of the Region 18 tournament in Twin Falls, Idaho, earned a split on the day's action. CSN opened with a strong 11-6 victory, prior to losing 10-5 to host Southern Idaho in a winners' bracket game in the evening.
Southern Nevada will now face off against Colorado Northwestern in an elimination game Thursday. If the Lady Coyotes prevail, they will advance through to the bracket to play either Snow College or USU Eastern.
Southern Nevada 11, Snow 6: A display of power led the Lady Coyotes to a victory to open the tournament.
CSN had four extra-base hits in the win, with
Liliana Gutierrez hitting a two-run home run in the fourth inning.
Caitlin Covington also added a two-run blast in the sixth inning.
Covington went a perfect 3-of-3 at the plate, finishing with 5 RBI's.
Southern Idaho 10, Southern Nevada 5: A big inning from CSI early dropped the Lady Coyotes to a loss.
Southern Idaho scored eight runs in the fourth inning to take a 9-0 lead, an advantage CSN would never recover from. The Lady Coyotes did score five runs in the fifth inning, utilizing a two-run
Jocelyn Shupp double in the rally.
Shupp went 4-of-4 at the plate in the game.
