HENDERSON, Nev. (April 1, 2023) - A slow start led to a stronger finish for the Southern Nevada Softball team.
CSN earned a doubleheader split in the concluding day of a Scenic West series against USU Eastern, posting a 9-6 loss in the first game. Southern Nevada then moved to a 12-1 victory in the series finale. The Lady Coyotes are now 17-17 overall and 9-11 in Scenic West play, lifting CSN into fifth place in the league standings.
Southern Nevada will travel to play at Colorado Northwestern next weekend.
USU Eastern 9, Southern Nevada 6: A slow start provided too high a mountain for CSN to climb.
USU Eastern jumped out to a 9-1 lead after three innings, with
Cynthia Alvillar hitting a solo home run in the first inning. CSN posted four RBI doubles in the fourth inning, scoring five runs. Unfortunately, the Lady Coyotes couldn't come back over the final innings.
Alvillar and
Kylie Sharapan both went 2-of-3 in the loss.
Laynee Anzalone posted the pitching loss.
Southern Nevada 12, USU Eastern 1: A crisp offensive performance led Southern Nevada to a run-rule win.
CSN took a 2-0 lead after the first inning, with
Caitlin Covington hitting a three-run home run in the second inning to boost the lead to 6-0. Southern Nevada also scored three unearned runs in the later innings.
Cynthia Alvillar was 3-of-3, posting a pair of RBI's.
Caitlin Covington was 2-of-2 and had five RBI's.
Madison McDowell threw a complete game in the pitching victory, posting a pair of strikeouts.
