Salt Lake Community College Softball Dominates College of Southern Nevada

Taylorsville, UT (May 15, 2023) - In a thrilling softball matchup, Salt Lake Community College (SLCC) demonstrated their dominance by defeating College of Southern Nevada (CSN) with a final score of 8-1.

SLCC took an early lead in the second inning when Brooke Pritchett hit a single up the middle, bringing home Mandy Mansfield for the first run of the game. Kaitlyn Purdy advanced to second on the play. SLCC continued to extend their lead when Raquel Binne singled and advanced to second on the throw, allowing Pritchett and Purdy to score, making it 2-0 in favor of SLCC.

The third inning proved fruitful for SLCC as well. Brianne Marvin hit a sacrifice fly to center field, enabling Audrey Mighell to score, extending the lead to 3-0. Mansfield then doubled down the left-field line, driving in two more runs. By the end of the third inning, SLCC held a comfortable 5-0 lead.

SLCC added another run in the fourth inning when Mansfield's hit allowed Binne to score, pushing the lead to 6-0. However, CSN managed to get on the scoreboard in the fifth inning. Wendy Van Wijk singled down the left-field line, bringing home Jocelyn Shupp to make it 6-1.

SLCC continued to dominate, with Mansfield delivering again in the sixth inning. Her single drove in two more runs, as Emily Robinson and Marlee Anthony crossed home plate, increasing the lead to 8-1.

The game ended with SLCC emerging as the clear victors with a solid 8-1 lead. The winning pitcher was SLCC's Tessa Hermansen, who delivered an impressive performance by allowing only one hit and one run while striking out two batters in her seven innings of work. Laynee Anzalone of CSN took the loss, allowing eight runs on 11 hits.

SLCC's offense was led by Mansfield, who went 2-for-4 with four RBIs and a double. Anthony also had a standout performance, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI.
