Central Arizona College Tops College of Southern Nevada 4-2 in Season Opener

Henderson, NV - January 26, 2024

In a thrilling season opener, Central Arizona College edged out the College of Southern Nevada by a score of 4-2 in a game that showcased strong pitching and timely hitting.

Central Arizona College's right-hander T. Haarer got the nod for the opening day start, and he delivered an impressive performance on the mound. Haarer threw five solid innings, allowing only one run on no hits, while striking out seven batters. His command and ability to mix pitches kept the College of Southern Nevada hitters off balance.

The Central Arizona College offense got going in the third inning when they plated two runs. J. Herdandez led off the inning with a single, followed by a walk to M. Quintanar. T. Reed then delivered a clutch RBI single, and M. Harrison added another run with a single of his own.

The College of Southern Nevada showed some fight in the bottom of the fifth inning when T. Long connected for a solo home run, putting them on the scoreboard. But Central Arizona College's pitching and defense remained strong throughout the game, limiting the College of Southern Nevada to just two runs.

In the top of the sixth inning, Central Arizona College extended their lead with another pair of runs. J. Williams led off with a single, followed by a walk to B. Rogers. G. Haas drove in a run with a sacrifice fly, and a passed ball allowed B. Rogers to cross the plate, making it a 4-1 game.

The College of Southern Nevada attempted a comeback in the bottom of the ninth when T. Long hit his second home run of the game, a solo shot, but it was not enough to overcome Central Arizona College's lead. M. Bejarano, who came in to relieve Haarer, closed out the game and secured the save for Central Arizona College.

With the win, Central Arizona College starts the season 1-0, while the College of Southern Nevada falls to 0-1. The game was well-fought and showcased the talent and competitiveness of both teams. Both starting pitchers, Haarer and L. Boesen, showed strong performances, but it was Central Arizona College that came out on top in this early-season matchup.

The Central Arizona College team and their fans had reason to celebrate after a well-executed victory, while the College of Southern Nevada will look to bounce back in the next game. The season is off to an exciting start, and both teams will undoubtedly have more thrilling matchups ahead as they compete in the 2024 baseball season.
