Henderson, NV - January 28, 2024 - The College of Southern Nevada (CSN) baseball program faced a tough battle against San Jacinto College (SanJac) on a chilly Sunday afternoon at Morse Stadium. Despite their best efforts, the CSN Coyotes fell to San Jacinto College in a nail-biting extra-inning game that ended 10-8.
In the thrilling contest, both teams displayed their resilience and determination, keeping fans on the edge of their seats throughout the game. San Jacinto College managed to secure the win in the 10th inning in the Texas Tie Breaker format, thanks to a well-executed sacrifice fly by J. Bennett, which allowed E. Castillo to score the go-ahead run.
The game started slowly, with neither team scoring in the first inning. The Coyotes of CSN struck first in the second inning, scoring two runs to take an early lead. However, San Jacinto fought back, putting up one run in the third inning and three runs in the fourth inning to take a 4-2 lead.
CSN bounced back in the fifth inning, with K. Kiernan's RBI single and some opportunistic base running that capitalized on a San Jacinto fielding error, allowing them to regain the lead at 8-7.
San Jacinto tied the game in the sixth inning, setting the stage for the dramatic extra innings that followed.
The game was marked by some standout performances, including H. Bouthilet of San Jacinto, who hit a crucial home run and finished with three RBIs. K. Holt was credited with the win as the pitcher for San Jacinto, while Hunter Alberini of CSN took the loss.
In terms of pitching, B. McColloug started for San Jacinto College, but it was Z. Mack who delivered a solid performance, pitching 2.2 innings with no runs allowed. J. Bollinger came in to close the game and secured the save.
For CSN, Tyler Avery started on the mound but was eventually replaced by Nolan Ficklin, who faced some difficulties on the mound. Boston Jensen and Dylan Venturini also made appearances on the mound for CSN.
The game, which lasted nearly four hours, drew an attendance of 135 fans who cameds to support their teams.
The College of Southern Nevada baseball program will look to bounce back in their upcoming games and build on the positives from this thrilling contest.
