CSN Women's Soccer Comes from Behind to Defeat Mohave in Dramatic 2-1 Victory

North Las Vegas, NV – The College of Southern Nevada (CSN) women's soccer team rallied late to secure a dramatic 2-1 victory over Mohave Community College on October 1, 2024. This hard-fought win improved CSN's record to 4-5-0 overall and 3-4-0 in conference play, while Mohave falls to 1-8-1 overall and 1-5-1 in the conference.

The match was a physical contest, marked by numerous fouls and multiple cards issued, including two red cards for Mohave. Despite the intense atmosphere, CSN showed great resilience in overcoming an early second-half deficit.

Mohave took the lead in the 63rd minute when Emily Sullivan found the back of the net, capitalizing on a set-piece opportunity. It was a frustrating moment for the Coyotes, who had controlled much of the possession but struggled to break through Mohave's defense. Mohave's goalkeeper, Evelyn Montiel-Silva, was in fine form, making several key saves to preserve the lead.

As the match wore on, tensions boiled over, with Mohave receiving a flurry of yellow cards, culminating in two red cards in the 74th minute for Yasmin Contreras and Alexia DeSantiago. With Mohave down to nine players, CSN seized the opportunity to press forward.

In the 85th minute, CSN earned a crucial penalty kick after a foul in the box. Midfielder Jenna Garcia calmly stepped up and buried the penalty to bring the match level at 1-1, giving the Coyotes the momentum they needed.

Just one minute later, in the 86th minute, Nathaly Perez-Rodriguez scored the game-winning goal with a powerful strike after a defensive lapse by Mohave. Perez-Rodriguez had been a constant threat throughout the match and was finally rewarded for her persistence.

The Coyotes' defense held firm in the closing moments of the match, and goalkeeper Nezza Ahumada made three saves to ensure the victory for CSN.

Scoring Summary:

CSN outshot Mohave 20-5, with nine shots on target, but it was the team's composure in the final minutes that made the difference. With this win, the Coyotes remain in contention for a strong finish in the conference as they look ahead to their next match.

Final Score: College of Southern Nevada 2, Mohave Community College 1
