College of Southern Nevada Secures 9-4 Victory Over Colorado Northwestern

Henderson, NV - March 17, 2024

The College of Southern Nevada baseball team showcased its offensive prowess and pitching depth in a commanding 9-4 victory over Colorado Northwestern Community College at Morse Stadium. Led by a balanced performance, the Coyotes improved to 18-7 for the season, demonstrating their strength as they head deeper into the competition.

The game started with a promising defensive display from both sides, with neither team scoring in the first inning. However, the Coyotes quickly gained momentum in the second inning, scoring two runs to take an early lead. Designated hitter Brady Ballinger contributed significantly, going 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI, setting the tone for Southern Nevada's offense.

Colorado Northwestern responded with a run in the top of the second, but the Coyotes' offense continued to apply pressure, adding a run in the fourth inning and exploding for four runs in the fifth inning. The offensive outburst was highlighted by third baseman Keoni Young's impressive performance, including a triple and a home run, driving in two runs and showcasing his power at the plate.

Pitcher Logan Smith delivered a solid performance on the mound for Southern Nevada, pitching two scoreless innings and earning his third win of the season. The Coyotes also received strong relief pitching from Dylan Venturini and Hunter Alberini, who combined for three innings, allowing just one run while striking out six batters.

On the defensive side, the Coyotes were sharp, turning crucial double plays and making key plays in the outfield to limit Colorado Northwestern's scoring opportunities. Shortstop Jack Wheatley displayed his defensive prowess, making several impressive plays to support the pitching staff.

Despite the loss, Colorado Northwestern showed resilience and fought hard throughout the game. They managed to score two runs in the seventh inning but couldn't overcome the Coyotes' dominant performance.

With the win, the College of Southern Nevada continues to build momentum and confidence as they progress through the season.

The Coyotes' victory showcased their depth and versatility, with contributions from multiple players both offensively and defensively. As they prepare for upcoming matchups, Southern Nevada looks to carry this momentum forward and continue their pursuit of success in the remainder of the season.
