College of Southern Nevada Drops Close Game to Utah State Eastern, 7-5, Despite Strong Offensive Efforts

Henderson, NV - The Lady Coyotes of the College of Southern Nevada (CSN) took to the diamond in a thrilling matchup against Utah State Eastern, but ultimately fell short with a final score of 7-5 in favor of the visiting team.

The game kicked off with Utah State Eastern showing their offensive prowess in the top of the first inning. C. Martinez's sharp single to center field brought in the first run, followed by G. Bruno's double that extended into a triple thanks to a throwing error, adding another run. M. Jennings' groundout brought Bruno home, and B. Anderson capitalized on a CSN defensive miscue, resulting in a four-run inning for Utah State Eastern.

CSN responded in the bottom of the first with determination. Shelbie Hoyt's aggressive baserunning put her in scoring position, and a throwing error allowed her to cross the plate, putting CSN on the scoreboard. Throughout the middle innings, both teams displayed solid defense, with pitchers on both sides working to limit scoring opportunities.

In the fourth inning, CSN's Mia Elicerio's well-placed groundout allowed Camryn Hunkins to score, closing the gap to 4-2. The game remained tight until the sixth inning when CSN's Sierra McLean reached base on a fielder's choice, bringing the Lady Coyotes within one run.

The seventh inning saw Utah State Eastern extend their lead with clutch hits from C. Martinez and M. Jennings, pushing the score to 7-3. Undeterred, CSN fought back in their final at-bat. Chaleah Workman's powerful swing resulted in a solo home run, injecting energy into CSN's lineup. Camryn Hunkins continued her stellar performance with another RBI single, bringing the score to 7-5. Despite their late-game surge, CSN couldn't complete the comeback.

Individual highlights for CSN included Camryn Hunkins' outstanding 5-for-5 performance, including a triple and an RBI, showcasing her offensive prowess. Chaleah Workman's home run added another spark to CSN's offense, highlighting the team's resilience.

On the mound, Bryn Connors battled through seven innings, facing a tough Utah State Eastern lineup. Connors showed determination and grit, keeping CSN in the game despite the early deficit.

With this result, CSN's season record moves to 13-30, while Utah State Eastern improves to 22-10. The Lady Coyotes remain focused on improvement as they look forward to their next matchup, aiming to build on their strong offensive showing and continue competing at a high level.
