HENDERSON, NV – February 14, 2025 – The College of Southern Nevada Coyotes faced a tough challenge against the Salt Lake Community College Bruins, losing 14-2 in a lopsided contest that marked the second game of their series. The Bruins' offense was unstoppable, tallying 17 hits, while the Coyotes struggled to contain their opponents' powerful lineup.
The game started promisingly for CSN with an early 2-0 lead in the first inning. Jimena Barraza-Caro ignited the offense with a single, followed by an RBI triple from Mariela Rodriguez. A subsequent wild pitch allowed another run to score, but that was the extent of the Coyotes' offense for the day.
Salt Lake quickly turned the tables in the second inning, putting three runs on the board and seizing control of the game. The Bruins then exploded for seven runs in the third inning, effectively putting the game out of reach. The onslaught was highlighted by key hits from T. Reynen, who batted in a run, and M. Schneider, who drove in two more with a double. The Bruins capitalized on every opportunity, combining solid hits with aggressive base running and taking advantage of defensive lapses by CSN.
The Bruins continued to extend their lead with four more runs in the fifth inning, driven by extra-base hits that showcased their depth and power. S. Lewis, who had a standout performance with a double and a triple, scored off a sacrifice fly by E. Pond. A. Hansen added to the damage with an RBI triple, later scoring on a single by M. Schneider.
On the mound, P. Fennell earned the win for Salt Lake, pitching two innings and allowing two runs before handing over to E. Plewe, who shut down the Coyotes over the next three innings. CSN's pitchers struggled throughout the game, with starter B. Christian taking the loss after giving up six runs in just two innings.
The Coyotes' defense also had a rough day, contributing to their woes with a key error that led to additional runs for the Bruins. Despite a few bright spots, such as Jimena Barraza-Caro, who had three hits, the team could not mount a significant challenge.
This loss drops the Coyotes to 4-7 for the season, while the Bruins improve their perfect record to 7-0. Looking to rebound, CSN will need to regroup and adjust their strategy as they face the Bruins again in the upcoming games of the series, hoping to turn their fortunes around and split the series.
