HENDERSON, NV, March 14, 2025 — The College of Southern Nevada Coyotes showcased their dominance in the opening game of a crucial three-game series against Cochise College on Friday, marching to a convincing 9-4 victory at Morse Stadium. This win propels the Coyotes to an impressive 28-4 overall and solidifies their position at 16-3 in the ACCAC Conference play.
The game remained scoreless through the first three innings as both teams' pitchers battled it out on the mound. However, the tide turned dramatically in the fourth inning when CSN exploded with a six-run barrage that stunned Cochise. This inning alone featured a sequence of powerhouse hitting, including a three-run homer by catcher Ashton Zacher that cleared the bases, followed by solo shots from Anthony Marnell IV and Tyler Garritano. Jack Wheatley also contributed with a deep homer down the left field line, capping off the inning's scoring frenzy.
Cochise College tried to claw back with two runs in the seventh, thanks to consistent hitting from Andrugh Yee and T.J. Shaw, but the comeback was stifled by CSN's tight defense and strategic pitching changes. The Coyotes further sealed the deal in the eighth inning with two additional runs, highlighted by Roy Durham's RBI single that drove in Brandon Swanson.
Pitcher Blake Uribe earned the win for CSN, improving his season record to an undefeated 5-0, thanks to his three innings of scoreless relief where he managed to keep Cochise's hitters at bay. On the other side, Alejandro Vanegas suffered the loss for Cochise, giving up six earned runs over four innings before being pulled for relief.
The defensive game was equally tight with no errors committed by either team, but CSN's ability to capitalize on their scoring opportunities made the difference. The Coyotes demonstrated both power and precision, tallying a total of 10 hits, including four home runs that significantly contributed to their run tally.
As CSN looks ahead to the next game in the series, they carry not only a commanding lead but also significant momentum, aiming to continue their dominant performance in the ACCAC conference. Cochise College, meanwhile, faces the challenge of regrouping and finding ways to curb CSN's offensive firepower in hopes of evening the series in the next matchup.
This significant victory not only strengthens CSN's impressive season record but also positions them as formidable contenders for the conference title, riding high on strategic plays and a robust team effort that has been the hallmark of their season so far.
