HENDERSON, NV – In a high-scoring finale to their four-game series, the College of Southern Nevada Lady Coyotes were edged out by the Yavapai College Roughriders 10-8 on Saturday afterrnon. Despite a valiant comeback effort, CSN couldn't overcome the early deficit, moving to 16-13 overall and 12-4 in ACCAC conference play.
Yavapai's bats were hot from the start, posting two runs in the first inning and breaking the game wide open with a seven-run explosion in the third. T. Tucker and G. Firth provided key hits to fuel the inning, with Tucker driving in two and Firth adding an RBI single. The Roughriders capitalized on several CSN errors to stretch their lead, compounding the Lady Coyotes' challenges.
CSN responded in the third inning, starting their attempt to close the gap. Destinee Lopez sparked the rally with a solo home run, followed by a string of hits that added two more runs. They continued to chip away at the lead with runs in the fourth and fifth innings, including a sacrifice fly by Lopez and an RBI double by Ellie Olson.
M. Durr, who started for Yavapai, struggled with control but managed to secure the win, allowing five runs over four innings. K. Hudson and B. Petty tried to hold the line but faced relentless pressure from CSN's hitters. Durr returned in the seventh to close out the game, despite giving up another run.
CSN's London Lamb took the loss after giving up five runs in just two innings of work. Blakelee Christian and Mckenna Cahoon came on in relief, but the Roughriders' early lead proved too much to overcome, despite the bullpen limiting further damage.
Jimena Barraza-Caro led the Lady Coyotes with her aggressive baserunning and key hits, contributing significantly to the team's eight-run total. However, defensive missteps and a lack of timely hitting in the crucial moments allowed Yavapai to maintain their lead and seal the victory.
With this series wrapped up, CSN looks to regroup and refocus as they continue their season, hoping to tighten their play both offensively and defensively to regain their form in upcoming ACCAC matchups.
