HENDERSON, NV — In the second game of their ACCAC conference series, the College of Southern Nevada's Lady Coyotes held on to a narrow 6-5 victory over the Central Arizona College Vaqueras on Friday afternoon. With this win, the Lady Coyotes improve to 10-9 overall and maintain a perfect record in conference play at 6-0.
Pitcher London Lamb clinched her fifth win of the season for CSN, enhancing her record to 5-1, while Mckenna Cahoon earned her first save in a clutch performance, shutting down a late Vaqueras rally. A. Lovo, who pitched for the Vaqueras, recorded the loss, dropping her record to 4-6.
The game started off with both teams striking early. Central Arizona took the lead in the top of the first inning with B. Wunderle driving a triple down the left field line to knock in two runs. However, CSN responded immediately in the bottom of the first with Destinee Lopez and Ellie Olson delivering crucial RBIs to level the score at 2-2.
CSN took the lead in the fourth inning thanks to an RBI single from Jrew Marie Mina, but it was the fifth inning that truly turned the tide. Bryn Connors came through with a double that cleared the bases, driving in three runs and pushing the Lady Coyotes to a 6-2 lead. This big hit proved vital as Central Arizona fought back fiercely in the later innings.
The Vaqueras closed the gap in the sixth with another RBI from Wunderle, and they nearly completed their comeback in the seventh, scoring two more runs. E. Wolff's pinch-hit RBI single brought the game within a run, but Mckenna Cahoon's relief pitching held the line, ensuring CSN preserved their lead and secured the victory.
Defensively, CSN played a flawless game with no errors, a contrast to the two costly mistakes by Central Arizona that contributed to their defeat. The Lady Coyotes capitalized on these opportunities, combining aggressive base running and timely hitting to fend off their rivals.
As CSN continues its quest to dominate the conference standings, this victory underscores their resilience and ability to perform under pressure. The series continues with two more games, where the Lady Coyotes will aim to extend their winning streak and the Vaqueras will seek redemption and a chance to disrupt CSN's perfect conference record.
