COOLIDGE, AZ — April 12, 2025
Behind a complete-game effort from Mckenna Cahoon and a relentless offensive attack, the College of Southern Nevada Lady Coyotes took game three of their four-game ACCAC series with a 6-1 win over the Central Arizona Vaqueras on Saturday evening. The victory moved CSN to 19-17 overall and 11-8 in conference play.
Cahoon was in total control from the circle, scattering six hits across seven innings while striking out seven and allowing just one earned run — a solo homer in the fourth by Central's Brianna Wunderle. She also benefited from solid defensive support despite two CSN errors.
Offensively, the Coyotes applied consistent pressure, collecting 10 hits from up and down the lineup. Jimena Barraza-Caro sparked the attack, going 2-for-3 with a triple, a stolen base, and three runs scored. Ellie Olson added a triple of her own and an RBI, while Camryn Hunkins continued her hot streak with two more hits and a stolen base.
CSN jumped out to an early 2-0 lead through the second and third innings thanks to an RBI single from Mariela Rodriguez and aggressive baserunning that allowed Barraza to steal home. After CAC cut the lead in half with Wunderle's homer in the bottom of the fourth, CSN responded quickly.
A double by Destinee Lopez in the fifth inning drove in another run, and a three-run sixth — highlighted by RBI contributions from Hunkins, Olson, and Mattingly Mauzey — helped the Coyotes pull away. Olson's RBI triple was the exclamation point, capping off a productive day at the plate for the CSN offense.
Cahoon faced minimal trouble after the fourth, retiring the final three batters in the seventh to secure her second win of the season and second complete-game performance of the weekend.
With the series now in their favor, the Lady Coyotes will look to clinch the series win in Saturday's afternoon finale. A strong showing could provide a significant boost as CSN continues to jockey for position in the ACCAC standings.
