HENDERSON, Nev. (May 2, 2025) — A strong start for the College of Southern Nevada wasn't enough to hold off a relentless Yavapai College rally, as the Roughriders surged late to take a 10-7 win in Game Two of the Region 1 Baseball Semifinals on Friday afternoon at Morse Stadium. The loss drops CSN to 44-11 on the year and sets up a winner-take-all Game Three on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. with a trip to the Region 1 Championship Series on the line.
CSN struck early and often, putting up six runs in the first three innings behind timely hitting and Yavapai miscues.
Harvey Smerdon,
Anthony Marnell IV, and
Roy Durham led the charge, with Durham driving in four runs including a two-RBI single in the second inning.
Chaz McNelis added a double and an RBI, while
Jack Wheatley scored twice and stole a base.
The Coyotes led 7-1 through five innings, but the game flipped in the sixth. A five-run frame for Yavapai—fueled by defensive errors and extra-base hits—tied the contest. The Roughriders added a go-ahead sacrifice fly in the seventh and tacked on three more in the ninth, highlighted by a go-ahead double from C. Horsey and an RBI single by A. Diaz.
Starter
Chase Frey delivered a solid outing for CSN, allowing just one earned run over 5.2 innings, though five runs crossed due to defensive lapses. The bullpen combined for 3.1 innings, with
Mayson Reichartz (3-1) taking the loss after surrendering the go-ahead run in the ninth.
Kody Bialas and
Andrew Kaplan also saw action in relief.
Despite drawing seven walks and putting pressure on Yavapai's pitching early, CSN was held to just three hits over the final six innings by Roughrider reliever T. Oughton, who earned the win with 6.2 strong innings in relief.
The Coyotes will now turn their attention to a decisive Game Three on Saturday at noon. The winner will move on to next week's Region 1 Championship Series, while the loser's season comes to an end.
