HENDERSON, Nev. — The College of Southern Nevada Coyotes completed a four-game series sweep Saturday afternoon, shutting out Community Christian College 10–0 in the finale at Lied Field | Morse Stadium.
After two scoreless innings, the Coyotes broke the game open with a seven-run third inning and never looked back, improving to 4–0 on the season while holding the Saints to just two hits.
CSN struck first in the bottom of the third when
Gabriel McCoy scored on an RBI single from
Alex Rhynes, who later stole home during the inning. The Coyotes continued to apply pressure as
Trey Evans doubled down the left-field line to drive in
Jackson Rieckmann, followed by an RBI double from
Gehrig Pineda. A pair of Community Christian errors allowed two more unearned runs to score before McCoy capped the inning with an RBI single to center.
The Coyotes added to their lead in the sixth inning as Rieckmann worked a bases-loaded walk to bring home McCoy, and
Michael Albanese followed with a groundout RBI to plate
Harvey Smerdon, extending the lead to 9–0.
CSN closed the scoring in the seventh inning when McCoy doubled to set the table and Smerdon delivered a sacrifice fly to center, scoring
Jacob Nelson.
McCoy led the Coyotes offensively, going 3-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI. Rhynes finished 2-for-3 with an RBI and a stolen base, while Evans added a pair of hits and an RBI. Nelson crossed the plate twice and stole two bases as CSN totaled nine hits and seven walks on the afternoon.
On the mound,
Dominic Ostolaza earned the win, tossing three scoreless innings while allowing just two hits.
Carson Anderson followed with three perfect innings of relief, and
Evan Festa closed the game with a clean seventh inning to complete the shutout.
Community Christian was limited to two singles and did not advance a runner past first base after the opening inning.
With the sweep complete, the Coyotes turn their attention to the Manny Guerra Border Battle, which begins Thursday afternoon as CSN hosts New Mexico Junior College at Morse Stadium.
