NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. — The College of Southern Nevada women's soccer team closed out its home schedule with a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Yavapai College on Saturday night at Cheyenne Sports Complex, as sophomore Ximena Gonzalez-Galeno delivered a second-half equalizer to highlight an emotional Sophomore Night celebration.
Playing their final home match of the 2026 season, the Lady Coyotes overcame a second-half deficit and controlled much of the offensive action, outshooting the Roughriders 13-8 while placing 10 shots on goal.
Before the match, Southern Nevada celebrated its sophomore student-athletes, recognizing their dedication and contributions to the women's soccer program.
The Lady Coyotes created several opportunities in the opening half, earning four corner kicks and testing Yavapai goalkeeper Jessica Welch. Leslie Villegas put a shot on frame in the 17th minute, while Jazlyn Chavez forced another save in the 22nd minute. Despite the early pressure, neither team could break through as the match remained scoreless at halftime.
Southern Nevada came out aggressively after the break, with sophomore Kate Oliva putting three shots on goal during the opening 12 minutes of the second half. Welch turned away each attempt to keep the match scoreless.
Yavapai broke the deadlock in the 59th minute when Nataly Arangure converted an assist from Mari Holladay at 58:51, giving the Roughriders a 1-0 advantage.
Rather than allowing the deficit to dictate the remainder of the match, the Lady Coyotes continued pushing forward.
Their persistence paid off in the 73rd minute when Gonzalez-Galeno, who had entered the match just four minutes earlier, finished an opportunity created by sophomore Iliana Arias. The goal at 72:12 brought Southern Nevada level at 1-1 and gave the home crowd another reason to celebrate on Sophomore Night.
The equalizer sparked another offensive surge from CSN. Alexa Alvarenga put a shot on goal just seconds after the restart, while Oliva followed with another attempt on frame less than a minute later.
Southern Nevada continued searching for a game-winner in the closing minutes. Monica Lopez-Torres and Arias each forced saves in the 84th and 85th minutes, but Yavapai's defense held firm to preserve the draw.
Oliva led the Lady Coyotes with four shots, placing all four on target. Villegas added two attempts, while Gonzalez-Galeno recorded the team's lone goal. Arias contributed an assist and a shot on goal.
In goal, sophomore Madison English played all 90 minutes, recording four saves while allowing just one goal.
CSN finished with a 13-8 advantage in shots, a 10-5 edge in shots on goal and a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks. The Lady Coyotes generated 10 of their 13 shots during the second half, including eight on target, as they pressed for a victory in their home finale.
The draw moved Southern Nevada to 2-7-4 overall and 1-6-2 in ACCAC play, extending the Lady Coyotes' unbeaten streak to two matches following their 5-2 road victory over Mohave College.
With their home schedule complete, the Lady Coyotes now turn their attention to the regular-season finale. Southern Nevada travels to Douglas, Arizona, to face Cochise College on Tuesday, Oct. 20, at 11 a.m. in its final ACCAC matchup of the 2026 season.
