HENDERSON, Nev. — March 28, 2026 — The College of Southern Nevada Coyotes used an explosive first inning and a key mid-game rally to defeat Eastern Arizona College, 9–6, Saturday afternoon in the final game of a three-game ACCAC series at Lied Field | Morse Stadium.
With the victory, CSN improved to 27–6 overall and 12–3 in ACCAC play, completing the series sweep.
Eastern Arizona opened the scoring in the top of the first inning, capitalizing on a walk and a defensive miscue to push across an unearned run and take a 1–0 lead.
The Coyotes answered immediately with a five-run outburst in the bottom half of the inning. Harvey Smerdon singled to start the rally and advanced into scoring position before Evan Festa lined an RBI single to left to tie the game. After Caden Kirby worked a walk to load the bases, Jase DeSantis drove in a run on a fielder's choice to give CSN a 2–1 lead.
Moments later, Jake Gorrell delivered the biggest swing of the inning, ripping a triple down the right-field line to plate two runs and extend the advantage to 4–1. The Coyotes continued to apply pressure as Grant Smith followed with an RBI single through the left side, capping the five-run inning and giving CSN a 5–1 lead.
Both teams were held scoreless over the next two innings before Eastern Arizona surged in the fourth. The Gila Monsters used patience at the plate and timely power to mount a five-run rally. After a pair of walks loaded the bases, Reece Van Devander connected on a grand slam to left field, flipping the score and giving Eastern Arizona a 6–5 advantage.
Facing their first deficit since the opening inning, the Coyotes responded once again in the fifth. Brandon Swanson was hit by a pitch to begin the frame, and Joseph Randazzo followed with a walk to put two runners aboard. Kirby then delivered a clutch double down the left-field line to bring home the tying run.
With momentum shifting back to CSN, DeSantis stepped in and delivered the decisive blow, lining a two-run single up the middle to give the Coyotes a 8–6 lead. Gorrell later came around to score on a wild pitch, extending the advantage to 9–6.
From there, the Coyotes' bullpen took control. Tee Southisene entered in relief and steadied the game, limiting Eastern Arizona to one run over 2.1 innings while keeping the Coyotes in front. Mayson Reichartz and Benjamin Schroeder combined to navigate the middle innings, working around baserunners to maintain the lead.
Andrew Kaplan closed out the victory, retiring the final hitters to secure his sixth save of the season and preserve the series-clinching win.
Offensively, CSN produced 13 hits in the contest. Gorrell led the way with a perfect 4-for-4 performance, including a triple and two RBIs. DeSantis drove in three runs, while Smerdon and Kirby each added multi-hit performances as the Coyotes consistently pressured Eastern Arizona pitching throughout the afternoon.
The Coyotes will return to action next weekend at Lied Field | Morse Stadium when they host Yavapai College in a three-game ACCAC series beginning Friday, April 3 with a doubleheader. The series will conclude Saturday. Full schedule and coverage information can be found at www.csncoyotes.com
