Cochise Defeats Coyotes in Extra Innings, 5–2, in Series Finale

HENDERSON, Nev. — March 7, 2026 — Cochise College broke a late tie with a three-run home run in the 10th inning to defeat the College of Southern Nevada, 5–2, Saturday afternoon in the final game of the three-game ACCAC series at Lied Field | Morse Stadium.

With the result, the Coyotes moved to 19–5 overall and 4–2 in ACCAC play.

Cochise struck first in the opening inning. Gavin Mesa singled to start the game and later scored when Jorge Cardenas delivered an RBI single through the left side to give the Apaches a 1–0 lead.

CSN answered in the bottom of the second. Jake Gorrell singled and advanced to second on a throwing error before Grant Smith reached on another Cochise miscue that allowed Gorrell to score, tying the game at 1–1.

The Apaches regained the lead in the fourth inning. After a walk and a single put runners aboard, T.J. Shaw Jr. doubled to left field to bring home a run and give Cochise a 2–1 advantage.

The Coyotes evened the score in the seventh inning. Smith walked and later stole both second and third before scoring on a throwing error by the catcher, tying the contest at 2–2.

Both pitching staffs held firm through the late innings. Dylan Venturini started for CSN and worked five innings, allowing two runs on six hits while striking out five. Mayson Reichartz followed with 2.1 scoreless innings of relief, and Benjamin Schroeder added 1.2 scoreless frames with three strikeouts to send the game into extra innings.

In the 10th inning, Cochise capitalized. After two runners reached base, Andrugh Yee connected on a three-run home run to right field, putting the Apaches ahead 5–2.

CSN was unable to respond in the bottom half as Cochise secured the victory.

The Coyotes were limited to four hits in the contest. Jake Gorrell led the offense with two hits, while Grant Smith and Jase DeSantis each added a hit.

The Coyotes will return to action next weekend when they host Central Arizona College in a three-game ACCAC series at Lied Field | Morse Stadium. The series begins Friday, March 13 with a doubleheader, with Game One scheduled for a 2:00 p.m. first pitch. The series finale is scheduled for Saturday.
