PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. — Madison English delivered a season-high 15 saves and Jazlyn Chavez gave the College of Southern Nevada an early lead as the Lady Coyotes battled Yavapai College to a 1-1 draw Saturday night in ACCAC play.
Chavez put Southern Nevada in front just eight minutes into the match, and English made the advantage stand for more than 70 minutes despite sustained pressure from the Roughriders. Yavapai eventually found the equalizer on a free kick in the 80th minute, but CSN held on over the closing minutes to secure a point on the road.
Southern Nevada wasted little time getting on the scoreboard. Chavez struck in the eighth minute for her second goal of the season, giving the Lady Coyotes a 1-0 advantage they carried into halftime. CSN generated eight shots during the opening 45 minutes while limiting Yavapai to 12.
The complexion of the match changed after halftime as the Roughriders increased the pressure. Yavapai produced 22 second-half shots, but English repeatedly turned the attack away. The sophomore goalkeeper recorded 10 of her 15 saves after the break and surrendered just one goal despite Yavapai putting 16 shots on frame for the match.
Yavapai finally broke through in the 80th minute when Nataly Arangure converted a free kick to even the match at 1-1. The Lady Coyotes protected the draw over the final 10 minutes to come away with a result on the road.
Chavez finished with two shots and one on goal to go with her first-half score. Jacqueline Acosta put both of her attempts on target, while Iliana Arias and Monica Lopez-Torres also recorded shots on goal. CSN finished with 12 total shots, including five on frame.
English's performance highlighted the night for Southern Nevada. She played all 90 minutes and stopped 15 of Yavapai's 16 shots on goal, helping the Lady Coyotes earn their third draw of the season.
The Lady Coyotes return home for another ACCAC matchup when they host Cochise College on Tuesday, Sept. 29 at 11 a.m. at Cheyenne Sports Complex in North Las Vegas.
