Dorothy Kendrick is the head women’s basketball coach for the newly-formed College of Southern Nevada Lady Coyotes women’s basketball program. She is a 22-year veteran of coaching, having earned significant acclaim as a high school coach in the Las Vegas Valley.
Kendrick, who is a native of Las Vegas and a Valley High School graduate, most recently coached at Shadow Ridge High School. She previously coached at Canyon Springs, where she won several rounds of coaching honors and had a 95-percent graduation rate for her players. She also won several NIAA regional titles at Canyon Springs.
Her high school coaching career began as a volunteer with the Mojave High School junior varsity program, where she led the team to an undefeated season. Her first head coaching experience came at Eldorado High School.
Kendrick’s athletic journey began as a Valley High student-athlete who lettered in basketball and softball. When an injury prevented her from pursuing collegiate opportunities, she enlisted in the United State Air Force and played basketball in the Air Force’s competitive program. She was named ‘Female Athlete-of-the-Year’ at Homestead Air Force Base during her tenure.
Outside of coaching on the floor, Kendrick plays a strong role in coaching advocacy groups, thanks to membership in the WBCA and the Women of Color Association. Additionally, she volunteers for a variety of basketball-related coaching opportunities including: Hoops for Hope, the Sequoia Holmes Basketball Camp, the Snow Valley Basketball Camp, and the Stanford Women’s Basketball Elite camp.
Kendrick’s coaching focuses on community engagement, with an on-court focus on teaching and developing character building and leadership.
She is married to husband, Johnny, whom she recently celebrated a 26-year anniversary with. When not coaching, she enjoys relaxing and attending social gatherings.
