2018 Coyote Border Battle Preview

By James Hernandez

For a sixth consecutive season the Coyote Border Battle will host some of the premier talent in junior college baseball. This 8 team opening season tournament traditionally features some of the top programs in the NJCAA and 2018 is no different. A who's who of traditional Grand Canyon state baseball powerhouses will once again make their way to Southern Nevada.

The lineup includes the Reigning ACCAC champion Arizona Western College Matadors (43-22*), Perfect Game #7 Central Arizona College Vaqueros (42-23*), Perfect Game #12 Yavapai College Roughriders (34-22*) and Gateway Community College Geckos (21-31). Scenic West Athletic Conference members Colorado Northwestern Community College Spartans (18-33-1*) and the Utah State University Eastern Eagles (16-34*) join the New Mexico Junior College Thunderbirds (35-23*) to round out the 2018 tournament field.

This three day tournament will feature multiple games taking place at Morse Stadium, Foothill High School and Burkholder Park beginning Friday January 26th and concluding Sunday January 28th. The 2018 edition will be highlighted by a Friday night grudge match between heated rivals Southern Nevada and Central Arizona in a highly anticipated rematch of the 2017 Western District championship game.

Fans all tournament games (held at Lied Field | Morse Stadium) will be broadcasted live on the Coyote Sports Network, for game times and tournament matchups please log onto www.csncoyotes.com or follow us on Twitter @CSN_Baseball or Facebook CSNCoyotes.
