CSN Softball opened year two of the Jim Overturf era versus the same El Paso Community College Tejanas team they defeated one year ago to open up beautiful Lady Coyote Softball Field.

Lindsey Daron was honored with the opening day start in 2018, and the sophomore from Vancouver, Washington didn't disappoint.

Daron scattered seven hits and four runs over her five innings of work, setting up to earn the victory.

With the team trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the first, Kianna Burnett unleashed a monster two-run bomb to centerfield that put CSN up 2-1. Three errors by EPCC in the bottom of the second left the door open for a big inning and the Lady Coyotes took advantage. CSN struck for a four spot, reclaiming a one run edge at 5-4. Freshmen standouts Haleigh Olive (3 hits, 2 runs, 2RBI) and Katelyn Enzweiler ( 1 HR, 1 run) dazzled in their debuts as CSN improved to 2-0 in season openers in the team's new stadium.

Freshman Kristie Thomas tossed two innings of four hit softball, allowing just one earned run and earning the first save of her collegiate career. Southern Nevada held on to defeat the Tejanas 10-8 in the opening contest of the 2018 Lady Coyote Kickoff Classic.

Fresh off earning the first save of her collegiate career, local Las Vegas product Kristie Thomas was back in the circle to start game two of the season versus the Central Arizona College Vaqueras.

Thomas was a bit shaky at times, however the freshman was able to navigate through 4.1 innings and give her team a chance to earn the victory. CSN erupted for nine runs in the first two innings, highlighted by two RBI's apiece from Kianna Burnett, Daryan Meade and Allie Lamb. Tayzha Meyers and Justine Tadeo-Corpuz added RBI's in the fourth inning to extend the teams lead to seven runs and a steal of home by Allie Lamb in the bottom of the fifth secured the run rule victory for Thomas and the Lady Coyotes.

Southern Nevada doubled up Central Arizona College 16-8 to improve its 2018 record to 2-0.

Day two of the Kickoff Classic opened up with the Lady Coyotes seeking its first 3-0 start to a season in five years, however Eastern Arizona College had other plans.

Starting pitchers Vesi Lilii (EAC) and CSN's Lindsey Daron engaged in an early pitching duel, with Daron surrendering just a pair of runs over her 4.1 innings of work. Unfortunately for Lindesy, the CSN offense that produced 26 runs over its first two games had gone dormant. Gilla Monster pitching was able to cool down the Southern Nevada bats with a combined three-hit shutout between starter Vesi Lilii and reliever Pania Monk. Eastern Arizona erupted for a nine spot in the top of the sixth inning on its way to an 11-0 run rule victory over CSN.

The loss was the first of the season for Southern Nevada and dropped the Lady Coyotes to 2-1 on the season.

The final game of the weekend for the Lady Coyotes featured a matchup with Grand Canyon state rival Pima Community College.

Once again the CSN offense struggled to put much offense together and before the team could blink they were behind 4-0. Freshman Rilee Stookey was the lone run producer for the Lady Coyotes, producing RBI's in the third and fifth innings. Unfortunately for Southern Nevada, that was all the offense they could produce and eventually dropped the contest 7-2. The loss to the Aztecs evened CSN's record at 2-2 in 2018.

Fans your Lady Coyotes will be away from the "Den" this weekend as they travel to Yuma, Arizona to participate in the 2018 Great Western Shootout.
