After a four - match home winning streak vaulted the College of Southern Nevada to #15 in the latest NJCAA poll, the Coyotes hit the road to battle Snow College and Colorado Northwestern. This would be the team's final regular season hurdle, before the 2018 Region XVIII tournament begins play next week in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Following a pair of hotly contested matches earlier this month in Henderson, Nevada the Coyotes and Badgers renewed acquaintances in Ephraim, Utah with important tournament seeding implications still up in the air for both sides. Both sides began the match with a defensive mindset and despite 11 total shots from both clubs in the opening half of play neither team was able to dent the scoreboard. A refocused Coyotes team outshot the Badgers 10-4 in the second half, however they were unable to penetrate the wall in front of Snow's net. On the other hand, the Badgers were able to tally three goals in the second half, breaking open a match that was neck and neck for the majority of the 90 minutes.
The 3-0 loss ended Southern Nevada's four match winning streak, dropping the Coyotes to 7-4 in SWAC play and 10-5-1 overall.
After a head scratching defeat less than 24 hours earlier to the Badgers, Southern Nevada hit the reset button as the bus pulled into Rangely, Colorado where an upset-minded group of Spartans awaited the Coyotes in the regular season finale for both teams.
Dynamic duo
Maliq Cooper and
Manuel Ponce showed why they are two of the most feared striker's in the SWAC with jaw-dropping goals in the 18
th and 34
th minutes to give CSN a 2-0 cushion heading into intermission. Stellar defense in the second half allowed Southern Nevada to open the flood gates offensively on an overmatched CNCC squad in the second half.
Jaime Munguia tallied the Coyotes third goal of the match in the 56
th minute, staking CSN to a 3-0 lead.
Bruno Aleman put the match to bed in the 70
th minute after scoring Southern Nevada's fourth goal of the match and
Vincent Vitellaro put the cherry on top of the sundae with his tally in the 78
th minute. CSN regrouped to blank CNCC 5-0 in the team's final regular season match of the season. With the victory the Coyotes improved to 8-4 in conference play and 11-5-1 overall in 2018.
