Following a 2-0 Friday versus Gateway Community College the Coyotes hoped to make it a clean sweep in the Grand Canyon state, but first they would need to take care of business versus South Mountain on Saturday.

2017 wins leader Isaiah Blaylock took the ball in game one looking to set the tone for CSN versus an opponent that has been a thorn in their side recently.

The Cougars sent eight men to the plate in the bottom of the first, striking for a four spot in the opening frame and never looking back.

Blaylock settled down to pitch scoreless frames in the second and third, however an anemic Southern Nevada offense just couldn't put anything together. The Coyotes were only able to produce four hits all game and as a result were shutout for the second time in 2018.

SMCC defeated CSN 4-0 to drop the Coyotes to 4-3 in the teams first loss away from home.

After being shutout for the second time this season, Southern Nevada had to regroup quickly if they were gonna escape Arizona with a winning record.

Impressive freshman southpaw Matty Mitchell was on the bump for CSN in the weekend finale and the team wasted little time getting themselves on the board.

An RBI groundout from Joey O'Brien plated Jordan Macias, and a hot shot to third off the bat of Herbie Good was misplayed and allowed Justin Lutes to touch home and give the Coyotes an early 2-0 advantage.

Mitchell was solid once again, but a questionable balk call in the bottom of the fifth allowed the tying run to score and ended his chances of factoring in the final decision.

The Cougars rallied to take a 4-2 lead in the bottom of the seventh thanks to an RBI single and a passed ball on a swinging strikeout.

Jordan Macias got the Coyotes to within a run after his solo shot to left in the top of the eighth, but unfortunately that was as close as Southern Nevada would get.

SMCC held on to defeat CSN 4-3, sweeping the doubleheader and dropping the Coyotes to 4-4 on the year.
