Following a 2-2 road trip to Phoenix, the College of Southern Nevada returned home to host the 2018 Coyote Baseball Classic. A familiar opponent awaited CSN in the tournament opener, the Yavapai College Roughriders.
Southpaw
Matty Mitchell took the ball in the opener looking to pitch the Coyotes to a fifth straight victory over their rivals from Prescott.
Mitchell was staked to a 10 run lead after just two innings thanks to an offensive outburst from Southern Nevada. Every starting player in the Coyotes lineup had at least one hit, totaling a season-high thirteen.
Roger Riley and
Joey O'Brien tied for the team lead in RBI's with three apiece and reigning SWAC player of the year
Justin Lutes chipped in with with a pair.
Freshmen
Matty Mitchell and
Dylan Krans combined to toss six innings of four hit baseball, allowing just one run and striking out four.
With the victory the Coyotes improve to 5-4 on the season and 5-0 versus Yavapai College in the teams last five meetings.
