Following a clean sweep of CNCC to conclude the 2018 home season, the Lady Coyotes hit the road for the first of three consecutive road trips to conclude the year. CSN's first road destination found them in Price, Utah where a talented group of Eagles were ready for a competitive weekend of SWAC softball.
Fresh off SWAC pitcher of the week honors,
Lindsey Daron entered the circle seeking a season-best third consecutive victory of the season. Daron wasn't as sharp as she had been in week's past and the Eagles made her pay. Lindsey was roughed up for 15 runs on 15 hits over her 5.1 innings of work. Southern Nevada was up to the task of scoring runs early, fighting back to knot the game up 4-4 and 7-7 after trailing by three runs on two separate occasions.
Tayzha Meyers paced CSN's offense with a pair of runs batted in, while freshman
Sabrina Saldate deposited her first round tripper of her collegiate career over the outfield wall, in the fourth inning.
Katelyn Enzweiler and
Kiana Burnett contributed 1 RBI apiece, however the Eagles would score the final eight runs of the game to drop the Coyotes 15-7 in game one of the series. The loss dropped CSN to 12-17 in the SWAC and 15-24 overall.
Southpaw
Tayzha Meyers was given the ball in game two seeking her third victory of the 2018 season. Meyers was competitive in the circle all game long, surrendering eight runs over six innings of work. Southern Nevada obtained leads on three separate occasions in game two, but was unable to hold on for the victory. Meyers and
Katelyn Enzweiler deposited round trippers in the first and sixth innings along with a pair of RBI's off the bats of
Elise Bush and
Kiana Burnett to account for eight runs scored. Unfortunately for the Lady Coyotes, an 8-8 game headed to extra innings and a game-winning single off the bat of Sweat in the bottom of the eighth inning was enough to propel Eastern into the winner's circle. USU-Eastern outlasted Southern Nevada 9-8 in extra innings, dropping the Lady Coyotes to 12-18 in conference and 15-25 overall.
Game three saw the Eagles breakout the bats early and often versus
Lindsey Daron as they pushed the offensive pace all afternoon long. Daron was only able to survive 2.1 innings, surrendering 12 hits and 12 runs in her shortest conference outing of 2018.
Daryan Meade provided a pair of runs batted in to lead the Lady Coyotes, but the only other run batted in was courtesy of
Katelyn Enzweiler in the top of the third inning. Eastern pummeled Southern Nevada pitching all afternoon as they cruised to a 15-3 mercy rule victory in game three of the weekend series. The loss dropped the Lady Coyotes to 12-19 in Scenic West Athletic Conference play and 15-26 overall.
Saturday's series finale saw a familiar theme come to fruition as the Eagles plated the first eight runs of the game, putting the Lady Coyotes far behind the eight ball for a second consecutive contest.
Kiana Burnett,
Sabrina Saldate,
Haleigh Olive and
Daryan Meade responded with one run batted in apiece in the top of the fifth inning to cut CSN's deficit in half at 8-4, but it was too little too late. Burnett and Saldate plated their second RBI's of the game in the top of the sixth inning, however it was not enough to stop USU-Eastern from breaking out the brooms. Eastern completed the sweep of Southern Nevada with a 10-6 victory in the series finale to drop the Lady Coyotes to 12-20 in SWAC play and 15-27 overall.
