Two Of The Nations Longest Winning Streaks Busted On Saturday

WEST JORDAN, Utah. (March 30, 2019) - A battle of two nationally-ranked teams ended in a doubleheader split.

The No. 3 College of Southern Nevada baseball team and the No. 17 Salt Lake Community College Bruins split a doubleheader with both games going back-and-forth. The Bruins claimed the first game, 4-3, before Southern Nevada came back for a 3-1 victory in game two.

The Coyotes and Bruins will play a doubleheader on Sunday.

Salt Lake 4, Southern Nevada 3: A back-and-forth game ended in a late loss for the Coyotes.

SLCC's Alex Bumpus delivered a game-winning hit in the ninth inning, erasing a dramatic comeback for CSN in the seventh inning. The Coyotes got on the board first in the second before SLCC returned in the bottom half and took the lead.

Southern Nevada tied the game at 2-2 in the fourth inning before the Bruins retook the lead in the fifth inning. Matt Gilbert started on the mound for CSN, throwing five innings while striking out three Bruins.

Southern Nevada 3, Salt Lake 1: A pair of runs in the sixth inning lifted the Coyotes to the critical victory.

In a pitching duel between the two Scenic West contenders, it was Southern Nevada who held a 1-0 lead after scoring in the third inning. SLCC countered with a run later to tie the game before Southern Nevada scored to end Salt Lake's vaunted winning streak.

Matt Wong and Johnny Cuevas both went 2-of-3 at the plate to lead CSN offensively. Nick Rupp pitched a complete-game victory by allowing just just one earned run while striking out eight SLCC batters.
