HENDERSON, Nev. (April 13, 2019) – Sometimes a big start is all it takes for a good day.
In the case of the College of Southern Nevada softball team, the Coyotes had a very big start Saturday against Snow College as they posted 8 runs in the day's opening inning. That momentum helped CSN to a 9-5 win in game one, followed up by an 11-10 win in game two. Southern Nevada's overall record is now 11-24 and their Scenic West Athletic Conference record is 9-15.
Southern Nevada will travel to play at Colorado Northwestern in a four-game series next weekend. The Coyotes will play doubleheaders on both Friday and Saturday. CSN will play its next home series on Apr. 26 against USU Eastern.
Southern Nevada 9, Snow 5: A
Breanna Alvarez two-RBI single in the first inning started an outstanding offensive performance for the Coyotes.
Elise Bush continued the scoring in the inning, following up Alvarez's hit with a two-RBI single of her own. CSN followed that outburst up by scoring a run in the second inning on a
Bailey Pepper home run. Southern Idaho would come back in the game but the early start proved too tall a mountain for the Golden Eagles to overcome.
Alvarez went 1-of-4 at the plate and Bush went 2-of-3, both finishing with a pair of RBI's.
Alexis Vigil went 2-of-3 and
Sabrina Saldate went 2-of-4. Alvarez also earned the pitching victory and
Karen Hernandez picked up the save.
Southern Nevada 11, Snow 10: The Coyotes enjoyed a walk-off victory in game two to earn the doubleheader sweep.
Alyssa Trujillo hit an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning, scoring
Bailey Pepper to pick up the victory. The walk-off helped Southern Nevada seal a 3-1 weekend.
It was Snow College who took an early 3-0 lead, stretching the lead to 7-1 in the fourth inning and 9-2 after the top of the fourth inning. However, CSN responded with three runs in the fourth inning, keyed by a
Breanna Alvarez RBI single that cut the deficit to 9-5.
The Coyotes tied the game in the sixth inning with a five-run inning, completing a nearly-improbable comeback.
Elise Bush had a two-RBI single to help with the rally, along with a Pepper RBI single.
Pepper and Saldate finished 3-of-5 at the plate. Alvarez and Bush both finished with two RBI's. The Coyotes finished with 18 hits.
Karen Hernandez earned the victory, throwing five innings while surrendering three earned runs.
