HENDERSON, Nev. (April 19, 2019) – The College of Southern Nevada baseball team is mere percentage points away from the top spot in the Scenic West Athletic Conference, meaning the Coyotes aren't about to let their collective feet off the accelerator.
CSN showcased its commitment to intensity with a doubleheader sweep of the Colorado Northwestern Community College Spartans at Morse Stadium Friday, earning a 10-0 run-rule victory in game one and a 7-2 win in game two. The wins pushed CSN's overall record to 33-8 and 16-4 in the Scenic West.
Southern Nevada and Colorado Northwestern will play two additional games on Saturday at Morse Stadium. Game one will start at 12:00 p.m. and live stats will be available at csncoyotes.com.
Southern Nevada 10, Colorado Northwestern 0: Two big innings propelled CSN to the series-opening victory.
The Coyotes posted four runs in the first inning thanks to a bases-loaded walk by
Matt Wong. CSN would also score runs on a
Nick Hernandez walk and an
AJ Amelburu walk in the same inning. The Coyotes used five RBI singles in the fourth inning to post six runs.
Behind the masterful pitching of
Nick Rupp, Southern Nevada allowed just four hits in a complete game shutout. Rupp earned the win and struck out one batter in five innings of work.
Wong,
Johnny Cuevas and
Jack Pineda all scored two runs in the game. Seven different CSN players had hits in the win.

An early
Johnny Cuevas double helped lift CSN to a 1-0 lead and
Matt Wong added to the advantage with an RBI single of his own.
Steven Rivas hit a solo home run in the seventh inning to stretch Southern Nevada's lead to 6-0.
Cuevas and Rivas both went 2-of-4 at the plate, contributing to Southern Nevada's 12 team hits. On top of his offensive success, Cuevas also picked up the pitching win by throwing five innings of scoreless ball with four strikeouts.
