Coyotes Score 29 Runs On The Day To Complete The Weekend Sweep

HENDERSON, Nev. (April 20, 2019) – The No. 11 College of Southern Nevada baseball team continued its hot pursuit of the Scenic West regular-season title, sweeping a Saturday doubleheader against Colorado Northwestern Community College at Morse Stadium.

CSN powered to an 18-0 win in game one and an 11-3 victory in game two to earn the series sweep. With the win, Southern Nevada is on a seven-game winning streak, boosting their record to 35-8 overall and 18-4 in the Scenic West Athletic Conference.

The Coyotes will travel to play at USU Eastern next weekend. Southern Nevada will return home to Morse Stadium in two weeks for a Scenic West showdown with nationally-ranked Salt Lake.

Southern Nevada 18, Colorado Northwestern 0: An offensive explosion ended in a CSN victory.

The Coyotes were on fire from the beginning at the plate, thanks to individual moments like Matt Wong hitting a grand-slam home run in the second inning. CSN scored 10 runs in the second inning alone, scoring in each inning of the game.

Wong's home run was one of only three extra-base hits on the day. Steven Rivas had a triple as part of a 3-of-3 performance at the plate and Johnny Cuevas went 2-of-2 with a pair of RBI's. The Coyotes had five different players post multi-hit games in the win.

Southern Nevada's pitching was also superb, capped by Buddy Pindel improving his record on the year to 4-1 in a four-inning performance that allowed just one hit. The Silverado High School product also struck out four CNCC batters.

Southern Nevada 11, Colorado Northwestern 3: CNCC may have scored first but it was the Coyotes who picked up the last laugh in another run-rule victory.

CNCC took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning before Jay DeSoto hit a two-run home run in the second inning to give CSN a 3-1 lead. Jack Pineda also hit a two-run home run in the inning to eventually help Southern Nevada stretch the lead to 6-1.

After Colorado Northwestern cut the deficit to 6-3, Steven Rivas responded with a two-run home run to right field that helped Southern Nevada clinch a lead they would never relinquish. Johnny Cuevas finished off the game with a two-run single.

Pineda finished the game with a 3-of-5 performance at the plate, while Rivas went 2-of-4 with three RBI's. Matt Wong finished the game going 3-of-3. Garrett Clarke earned the pitching victory for Southern Nevada, pitching two innings of relief while allowing three hits and striking out four batters.
