HENDERSON, Nev. (April 6, 2019) – How sweep it was for the College of Southern Nevada baseball team on Saturday.
After splitting a doubleheader against longtime league foe Southern Idaho Friday, CSN responded by earning a sweep of the Golden Eagles on Saturday, picking up a 6-4 win in game one and a 5-3 victory in game two. The wins lift CSN's overall record to 31-8 and 14-4 in the Scenic West Athletic Conference.
The Coyotes will host a four-game series against Colorado Northwestern in two weeks at Morse Stadium in Henderson. Games will start at 1:00 p.m. Friday and at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
Southern Nevada 6, Southern Idaho 4: A late rally helped the Coyotes earn the victory in the day's first game.
Trailing 4-2 entering the sixth inning, Southern Nevada scored four unanswered runs to take a lead they would never relinquish. CSN started well and picked up an early run on a
Matt Wong RBI single but would allow Southern Idaho to outscore them 4-1.
Roger Riley tied the game for the Coyotes on an RBI double in the sixth inning and Southern Nevada pulled ahead after.
Wong finished 2-of-3 at the plate with the RBI in the first inning.
Matt Gilbertson started the game for Southern Nevada, surrendering four earned runs, and
JD Brooks earned the victory with two scoreless innings in relief.
Southern Nevada 5, Southern Idaho 3: A fast start helped the Coyotes power to the victory.
CSN posted three runs in the first inning, scoring off a series of bases-loaded plays that helped Southern Nevada gain early control of the game. While Southern Idaho chipped away at the lead, eventually tying the game in the eighth inning, the Coyotes powered back for two runs in the ninth inning to take the lead.
In the ninth, it was
Jack Pineda's RBI bunt single that opened up the scoring to help Southern Nevada earn the victory. CSN posted 8 hits in the game as
Matt Wong went 2-of-4 and
Johnny Cuevas went 2-of-5 with two RBI's.
Chase Bauerle earns his second win and
Josh Brown earns his second save on the year.
