HENDERSON, Nev. (January 25, 2020) – The College of Southern Nevada softball team opened their 2020 season with a pair of home losses on Saturday.
CSN fell in a season-opening doubleheader with Yavapai College, losing 13-5 in game one and 11-3 in game two. The losses drop Southern Nevada to 0-2 to start the season.
The Lady Coyotes will host the 'CSN Kickoff Classic – Presented by Fiesta Henderson Hotel and Casino' next weekend. CSN will open the tourney on Friday at 8:00 a.m. with a matchup against Central Arizona College.
Yavapai 13, Southern Nevada 5: Yavapai jumped out to an early lead and never looked back in the season-opening loss for CSN.
Yavapai opened up an early 6-0 lead after the third inning before the Lady Coyotes made some noise in the fourth inning.
Mayu Nishijima and
Alyssa Trujillo both had a pair of RBI's in the inning as CSN cut the deficit to 6-4. However, Yavapai responded with two runs in the fifth inning and stretched the lead from there.
Chasity McKean went 2-of-3 at the plate for Southern Nevada.
Yavapai 11, Southern Nevada 3: A strong start lifted Yavapai to the win in game two of the series.
YC posted 7 runs in the first two innings, part of a start that saw them score in each individual inning. Southern Nevada posted a pair of runs in the second inning, thanks to a
Mayu Nishijima RBI single, but the Yavapai offense was too much for the Lady Coyotes to overcome.
Nishijima and
Cierra Mikaelsen both finished 1-of-2 in the game, with Mikaelsen hitting a solo home run in the fifth inning. The other CSN run came in the second inning on a passed ball.
