HENDERSON, Nev. (January 30, 2020) – A tough start to the 2020 season will do little to deter the energy and enthusiasm around the College of Southern Nevada softball team.
The Lady Coyotes return to the field this weekend to host the 'CSN Kickoff Classic – Presented by Fiesta Henderson Hotel and Casino', with a trio of games on Friday and a single game on Saturday. Southern Nevada opened the season with a pair of losses to nationally-ranked Yavapai College last weekend, setting the table for a strong rebound at Lady Coyote Softball Field this weekend.
CSN coach
Ashley Johnston said her team has looked back at last weekend's results and is looking forward to this weekend's opportunity.
"We came off a rough weekend last weekend," she said. "Our pitching wasn't at its best. We gave up too many walks and home runs. We've got to find a way to regroup in the circle and get back to pitching our game and staying in control.
"Defensively we made a few mistakes, but nothing that we can't fix and move forward from. Our offense could have been stronger, but it was hard to be down several runs each inning when coming to the plate. We have some strong hitters so once we get them working all together, we will be just fine at the plate. We are back to work this week to fix mistakes that we made to help us get prepared for our upcoming tournament."
Southern Nevada will face off against Central Arizona at 8:00 a.m. on Friday, with a game against Northwest Kansas Technical College at 10:30 a.m. The Lady Coyotes will conclude their Friday schedule with a 3:00 p.m. game against Eastern Arizona College. CSN will conclude the tourney on February 1 with a 10:30 a.m. game against Jones College.
