College of Southern Nevada Coyotes

CSN Pro Day 2020

CSN Baseball ‘Pro Day’ event

HENDERSON, Nev. (October 25, 2020) – The College of Southern Nevada baseball program is about to participate in a rarely-seen event in college baseball.

This weekend, the Coyotes will be part of a 'Pro Day' event organized by Prep Baseball Report - Nevada (@PBR_Nevada)  to showcase members of the CSN program who have an opportunity to move forward by playing professional baseball. After hosting a similar event for the past decade, CSN will be moving the showcase to the home of the Las Vegas Aviators in Summerlin.

CSN coach Nick Garritano said this event will give an opportunity to promote student-athletes in a unique setting.

"CSN has always had a rich tradition of helping kids move on to the four-year level and the professional level," he said. "It's a credit to the players and their hard work and determination. You cannot have pro days if you do not have prospects."

While professional scouts and college recruiters have long been mainstays at CSN events, the COVID-19 pandemic has made it harder for the Coyotes to get attention to prospective players. The challenge of promoting players while having to restrict access to them is a unique proposition, according to Garritano.

"Scouts have come to our fall scrimmages and workouts in the past when campus has been open, but with restrictions this year due to COVID-19, we had to make some changes to promote safety while still showcasing our players," he said. "Like all else with COVID, in my opinion it has made it much more difficult. Any other year, 90-percent of all professional clubs would have been represented at our fall games or practices. There would've also been between 30 and 40 Division-I universities that would've been out to our facility to recruit our student athletes."

The CSN 'Pro Day' event will feature approximately ten players. The pitchers will be throwing on the mound in a bullpen-like setting, while hitters will take batting practice and run sprints. All players will have the ability to showcase their arm strength and fielding abilities.
