HENDERSON, Nev. (February 1, 2020) – The College of Southern Nevada baseball team responded from a tough conclusion on Friday with a win to close out a home-hosted tournament on Saturday.
CSN earned a 9-1 win over New Mexico Junior College, closing out the 'Manny Guerra Coyote Memorial Border Battle – presented by Sunset Station Hotel and Casino' with a 2-2 record. Southern Nevada's overall record is now 3-4 with the win.
The Coyotes posted three runs in the third inning to take a lead, loading the bases and then scoring two runs on fielding errors.
Joseph Walls had a fielder's choice RBI later in the inning, helping
Dax Fellows score to give CSN a strong 3-0 lead.
CSN posted two more runs in the fifth inning, with
Jack Pineda and Fellows scoring on a
Cole Schaefer bunt single. Southern Nevada closed out the run-rule victory by scoring four runs in the seventh inning, loading the bases and then chipping away with RBI singles by
Austin Plante and Pineda, along with scoring due to a wild pitch.
Fellows led CSN at the plate, going 2-of-3 with a pair of walks. He also scored two runs.
Garrett Clarke earned the pitching victory, allowing five hits in six innings while surrendering just one run. He struck out six NMJC batters in the win.
Southern Nevada will play a tournament in Phoenix next weekend, playing several ACCAC schools.
