MESA, AZ. (February 8, 2020) – The No. 12 College of Southern Nevada baseball team opened an Arizona-based tournament with a strong win on Friday.
The Coyotes earned a 15-4 win over Yavapai College to open the 'Zinger Bat Invitational' in Phoenix, earning their second consecutive win. Southern Nevada's record is now 4-4 with the win.
Pitching helped tell the story of the game as
Chase Silseth earned the win as the starter, allowing a single hit in five innings while striking out 12 batters. CSN got out to a hot start in defense of Silseth, taking a 4-0- lead in the second inning thanks to a
Dax Fellows two-run double.
Johnny Cuevas hit a double in the fifth inning that helped scored two runs, building the Southern Nevada lead to 11-0.
Peyton McGregor also had an RBI double in the inning. While Yavapai would post several runs in a comeback attempt, Coyotes reliever
Austin Raleigh closed out the game with a no-hit final inning.
Offensively, Fellows finished the game going 3-of-4 at the plate, scoring 5 runs while driving in 3 runs.
Jack Pineda and
Cole Schaefer both went 2-of-4.
Southern Nevada will play Gateway Community College at 2:00 p.m., along with playing No. 1 Central Arizona at 6:00 p.m.
